Laser dentistry
The development of the dental laser has brought change
to many well-established dental procedures such as
the treatment of gum disease and dental decay. It
has also led to the introduction of totally new techniques
for effective treatment of sensitive teeth, relief
from ulcers and early treatment of cold sores.
The dental laser represents a great leap forward in
preventative dental care; the dental drill will still
be with us for some time as a means, for example,
of removing old fillings. However, the ability of
the laser to vaporise tissue means that in some cases
much less drilling will be needed than ever before.
The nature and intensity of laser light can also enable
dentists to check and treat developing dental disease
earlier than ever before.
