NEUROMUSCULAR DENTISTRY

Neuromuscular Dentistry is the science of dentistry that covers function between the teeth, joints and muscles, that could fix many of the symptoms of TMD (Temporomandibular Dysfunction).

Do you have TMD?
If you answer yes to any of the following statements, you could be suffering from Temporomandibular Dysfunction:

  • I experience frequent headaches or migraines
  • My teeth are worn, chipped or cracked or have sensitive teeth.
  • My fillings or crowns frequently crack, chip or break
  • I have pain or soreness around my jaw joints
  • I have pain in all my teeth
  • I have facial, neck, shoulder pain.
  • My jaw joints are noisy or I have ear aches
  • I experience limited jaw movement or have locking jaw

Headaches

Can dental treatment resolve your headache problem?

Most people don’t think to mention headaches to their dentists. Yet, muscle-contraction (tension) headache is the most common form of headache. It typically results in pain on both sides of the forehead and sometimes in the neck as well.

It is estimated that 75 percent of all headaches are caused by muscle tension, which may be related to the bite. Simply stated, if your muscles have to work overtime to properly align your bite, they may go into spasm and ultimately pain.

There are many possible causes of a headache. Non-invasive tests can establish whether or not muscle tension may be the cause of your headaches and whether dental treatment might resolve your headache problem. If you suffer more than an occasional headache or frequently take medication for headache pain, it is well worthwhile to call us on 02077306160 and let us see if dental work may be the answer to the pain.

How It's Done

Using the advanced technology of Neuromuscular Dentistry, we measure the jaw's muscles relaxed position. If an imbalance is determined, an orthotic or splint can be constructed, and is worn for several weeks to several months, the jaw naturally drops into its most comfortable position.

You may need braces (Orthodontics) or a Full Mouth Rehabilitation to permanently solve the Temporomandibular Dysfunction.
